Abstract and Minimalism Photography Talk

A selection of images from Daniel's Abstract and Minimalism photography talk

New for 2025, Daniel's Abstract and Minimalism photography talk looks at ways to refine and simplify compositions, creating abstract images from a variety of different subjects, making use of techniques such as Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), long exposures, making use of windows and doors to frame a view, and more.

Daniel also discusses how he uses selective vision to home in on the relevant details to include, avoiding extraneous elements to highlight what caught his eye in the first place.

This talk was written after repeated requests for one covering long exposure photography using neutral density (ND) filters. Daniel didn't feel this warranted a whole talk of its own, so he decided to incorporate it into this one, so that he could include other techniques, subjects, and ideas, to produce minimal and abstract compositions.

This is an interactive talk, I encourage questions and comments, which works well at camera clubs as it sparks discussion, rather than simply being a slideshow.

Ideal for camera clubs, nature groups, WI and U3A groups, this talk has the aim to improve the audience's knowledge and enjoyment of photography.
